THE GREEN ATTITUDE GALA 2019
THURSDAY, MARCH 21, 2019 — 6:30 PM – 11:00 PM
La Maison Française at the French Embassy, Washington, DC 20007
March 21, 2019 is the International Day of the Forest. We have chosen this auspicious date to organize the Green Attitude Gala, under the gracious patronage of His Excellency Gérard Araud, Ambassador of France to the United States. The gala will celebrate women taking a stand to fight for the environment and will benefit the Anne Fontaine Foundation and its mission for the reforestation of Brazil’s Atlantic Forest.
The French Ambassador will deliver a speech on sustainability and climate change, topics that are among French President Emmanuel Macron’s priorities.
To organize this event, Gérard Araud has brought together an exceptional committee of women committed in their respective fields to the cause of the environment and sustainability.
“We know we will only meet the challenge of climate change if we see it also as an opportunity: To innovate; to create jobs and growth; to improve energy security and competitiveness; and to create healthier and fairer societies.”
—Gérard Araud, French Ambassador
In many countries, women and girls are particularly at risk when it comes to climate change. Women are responsible for securing food, water and energy for cooking, heating and sustaining their families. This means that they depend on natural resources for their livelihoods, which are threatened by drought, uncertain rainfall and deforestation – all things that are exacerbated by climate change.
Women in leadership roles were essential in creating the Paris Agreement. Today, together, women are turning ideas into solutions.
The Green Attitude Gala will celebrate women’s influence over 21st century issues; hence the naming “Green Attitude: La Parole est aux Femmes.” Pascal Blondeau wishes to acknowledge women for their achievements and growing influence. Not only are women proving to be influencers; they are doing so with a “feminine touch” of style, elegance, and grace, and a whole new “attitude.”
Because France does everything in style, it is important to us to put together an event that encompasses green accomplishments and goals, while showcasing the innate French ability to incorporate elegance and attitude.
We hope you will consider joining us for what promises to be a magical evening including cocktails, a special performance by the Washington Ballet and a seated dinner, organized as part of the Goût de France/Good France festival.
