Did you know?

While the world was saying good-bye to the year 2011, a great fire started in the Torres del Paine park, the iconic natural preserve of the Chilean Patagonia. The firemen took more than a week to get control of the fire and stop it. Around 36,000 acres (145 sq. km) of forest, grassland and steppes were destroyed.

In 2005, a campfire started by an inattentive backpacker burnt 160 sq. km (40,000 acres) of the nature preserve. This time, the fire would result from the negligence of another tourist.

Respect and take care of the forest and natural preserves!
